Our Heritage

Westminster Church of the Nazarene was founded with 17 members in 1957. On their first Sunday, they rolled out plans for the building on their first campus at the corner of Lowell Boulevard and 73rd Avenue. From the earliest days, the heart-cry of the church was to be a holy, positive, impact people. As a result, when the church was only 15 years old, members already started talking about moving to a larger piece of land in an expanding, high-visibility area. In 1972, when the church had an average attendance of only 140, they voted to purchase property at our present location on 104th Avenue, which has been our home since 1977.

The Vision

Our vision is still to be a holy, positive, impact church. Over the next 50 years our goal is to plant 500 churches and to raise up 500,000 holy, positive, impact believers in North Denver and beyond. If we expect to continue planting new churches, we ourselves must continue to grow, thrive, and reach lost souls. We will need to relocate in order to provide the land and facilities for this vision to become a reality.

The Challenge

We have enjoyed great blessing and growth. This growth comes with challenges, however. Imagine the guest who comes seeking hope and answers, but leaves after circling the parking lot and finding no empty space. Imagine how a crowded sanctuary may dull our sensitivity to the thousands of lost souls that surround us. Imaging how the lack of educational space hinders programs to solidify faith and build relationships. Imagine the guest who does not return because they feel "lost in the shuffle" in a crowded lobby. In short, our facility limits our mission. What opportunities are we missing?

This prject requires us to raise at least $10 million beyond our regular tithes and offerings over the next eight years. We have partnered with RSI, the leading church stewardship firm, to guide us through capital stewarship campaigns. In addition to funds raised through this campaign, we will sell our present facility to borrow money to finance our vision.
