Monday Nights (January 26th - April 29th)
Teacher's Assistants: 6:00 - 8:15 pm, provide support to lead teacher, run copies as needed, assist students who may require one-on-one assistance, gain experience in preparing and teaching a lesson, if desired.
Children's Worker: 5:30 - 8:15 pm, make it a fun evening for the children by leading and participating in gym time, crafts, homework help, learning activities, etc. Or, if we have wee little ones, provide loving care in our nursery. Assist with set-up and clean up.
NOTE: All children's workers will be required to agree to a background check.
Front Desk: 5:40 - 7:00 pm, set-up welcome desk (name tags, registration forms, etc.), warmly welcome the students, provide registration and assessment forms and assist students in completing forms as needed, track student and volunteer attendance, collect registration fees, clean up welcome desk proior to departure. Organiztional skills, ability to multi-task and a hospitable personality is the best match for this position.
Snack Coordinator: 5:45- 6:00 pm, Set up drinks and snacks; 6:00- 6:30 pm, Interact with students during the snack time; 6:30- 6:45 pm, Clean up any left over snacks and drinks. This person may also make reminder phone calls to other volunteers who signed up to bring snacks each week.
ESL Angels: Can't commit to the entire semester?
1. You can provide snack for one, two or as many evenings as you'd like throughout the semester. You can eiter drop them off on Monday afternoon or attend snack time and interact with our students. (6:00 - 6:30 pm)
2. Some students struggle to pay their materials costs. You can be their "ESL Angel" by covering the $25 materials fee for them. Simply make your check payable to WCON and designate it for "ESL materials."
Wednesday nights (February 4th- April 27th)
Conversation Partners: 6:45- 8:15 pm, simply converse with our students in their chosen area of interest. Must have proper English language skills and have a good grasp of correct spelling and grammar to work with students who chose to practice written skills, study for thier citizenship exam, read a book, etc. Training and ongoing support will be provided.
